The electrode array reaches deep into the cochlea to stimulate as many of the auditory nerve endings as possible.

It is very important to that the electrode array is very thin and soft so that delicate cochlear structures have the possibility of remaining intact, possibly preserving the cochlea for future technology. We don’t know what promise the future might hold, but in a young child’s lifetime, it might hold a lot.
